Cleveland Cable Company strikes gold for sustainable stand design for the second time
Cleveland Cable Company are celebrating after their exhibition stand achieved the Gold Standard for sustainability for the second year running at the Solar & Storage Show.
The award is a benchmark from the Better Stands initiative, which encourages organisers and contractors across the events and exhibitions industries to adopt reusable displays and phase out single-use alternatives. The aim is simple: cut waste, promote reuse and promote exhibition stands as both sustainable and impactful.
Why do we need Better Stands?
If you’ve ever been at any sort of exhibition towards the end of an event, you’ll start to have an idea of just how much waste is left behind. The trouble with single-use stands is that by their very definition, they’re designed to be thrown away after. They encourage waste.
The Better Stands framework uses a 10-point sustainability checklist to evaluate the reusability of stands based on specific, individual components, ranging from flooring and fascias to lighting. We provide information on each of the 10 stand elements to support organisers and contractors to find more reusable components. The final exhibition stand is then graded bronze, silver, or gold based on how sustainable these components are. This grading system gives exhibitors and contractors a clear picture of where they’re doing well, and what steps they can take to make their stands even more environmentally-conscious.
At Motive, we take a different approach. As Kathryn explains:
“The exhibition industry generates a huge amount of waste. That’s why we’re designing stands with sustainability in mind, using materials and components that can be reused again and again. Working towards our own sustainability goes some way to helping our customers to improve theirs.”
Why sustainability matters for exhibitors
Sustainable stand design doesn’t just reduce environmental impact. There are real business benefits too:
- Smoother, more predictable build and breakdowns, enabling you to better plan your time and resources
- Lower long-term costs, with reusable elements providing great ROI
- A more responsible way to exhibit: build a company commitment to sustainable practice
- Clarity and accountability with the Better Stands checklist
A global movement for a more sustainable world
Better Stands isn’t just a UK initiative. It’s a global framework that’s already been trialled at more than 400 events in 37 countries, with input from organisers, service providers, venues, and sustainability assessors.
So when a brand like the Cleveland Cable Company achieves the Gold Standard, it’s more than recognition at a single show or in a set location. It’s proof that they’re meeting a benchmark that is respected worldwide.
Cleveland Cable Company: leading by example
Our stand for Cleveland Cable Company was designed and developed with two key aims in mind: creativity and sustainability.
As Edward Marshall from our team explains:
“It’s great to design and build stands that look completely custom and unique, while still meeting Cleveland Cables Company’s sustainability goals. This proves that stands can look amazing and impactful, and be sustainable at the same time.”
Cleveland Cable Company are firmly positioned as trailblazers in sustainable exhibition stands, stating:
