Space-only exhibition stands

Space-only stands – with a blank canvas, the world is your oyster!

Total creative freedom
Immersive visitor experiences
Built just for you

What is a space-only stand?

A space-only exhibition stand is exactly that – it’s an allocated plot of exhibition space.

The space-only option allows you to book an area without any preexisting structure. Most exhibition halls have rows sectioned off, and organisers sell space by the square metre. Your space will be marked out with tape or chalk when you arrive, ready for construction.

Opting for a space-only design enables you to create a fully immersive visitor experience. From product displays and demos to installing vehicles and heavy machinery on the stand, if you need it, we’ll add it – even the kitchen sink (no joke!).

Let us design an unforgettable visitor experience for your next exhibition.

What are the benefits of a space-only exhibition stand?

If you’re looking for a design that will help your brand make a statement in a crowded exhibition hall, a space-only stand could be the answer.

These stands tend to have more central positions. Combine a prime spot with a striking and memorable design, and you’ll make a lasting impression on potential customers.

They’re also the perfect option for creating ‘zones’ within your exhibition space, so if you’ve got several products or services to showcase, each can get its spot in the limelight.

Another benefit of opting for a space-only exhibition stand is that it’s often more cost-effective than selecting a pre-built shell scheme. Rather than paying for pre-built walls, flooring and fixtures you might not need, you only pay for the space. What you fill it with is up to you!

What is a space-only exhibition stand?

Space-only is exactly that – it’s an allocated plot of exhibition space!

Are there any restrictions or guidelines for designing and building a space-only stand?

Yes, there are often restrictions and guidelines for designing and building a space-only stand. These restrictions and guidelines vary depending on the venue, but some common restrictions and guidelines may include:

Height restrictions: There may be restrictions on the maximum height of the stand to ensure visibility and safety within the exhibition hall. These restrictions may vary depending on the location and specific regulations of the venue.

Structural requirements: The design and construction of the stand must comply with structural requirements to ensure stability and safety. This may include considerations for materials used, load-bearing capacities, and engineering certifications.

Electrical and technical guidelines: If the stand incorporates electrical or technical components such as lighting, audiovisual equipment, or interactive displays, exhibitors must comply with electrical safety standards and guidelines.

Accessibility requirements: Space-only exhibition stands should be accessible to all attendees, including those with disabilities. This may involve providing wheelchair ramps and ensuring adequate space for manoeuvrability.

What technical requirements should I consider for my space-only stand?

There are several technical requirements you’ll need to consider for your space-only stand. Power supply, AV equipment, lighting, display screens and monitors should all be high up on your list. And don’t forget the internet connection!

How do I know what my space-only exhibition stand will look like?

Are you worried about whether your stand will look different from the visual you approved on paper? You don’t need to be, as we’ll build it in our workshop prior to the exhibition so you can see the stand exactly as it will look on the big day. We want you to turn up at your exhibition stand at the venue knowing what to expect, having seen it in the flesh a few weeks prior.

Can I hire elements from you for my space-only exhibition stand?

A resounding yes! We want to give you the best value for your money. We don’t believe buying furniture that will only be used for a few days of the year makes sense, which is why we offer a hire service. You can also hire: Flexible modular exhibition stand framework; video walls; light walls; TVs, iPads, interactive screens and dongles; lighting; flooring; games; shelving; fridges/chillers; kitchen cabinets; and yes, the kitchen sink.

What different types of exhibition stands are there?

Modular exhibition stands

A modular stand is an exhibition system made up of different blocks that can be reconfigured to fit exhibition spaces without compromising on the look of the graphics.

Custom-built trade show stands

Custom exhibition stands are purpose-built displays designed specifically for your exhibition space and target audience. They’re unique to your brand and the event. Common examples of these are island sites – as the name suggests, they have no sides, and you can usually walk all the way around them.

Shell scheme exhibition booth

A shell scheme refers to the exhibition stand space assigned to you when you book an exhibition stand. Typically, these are advertised by the metre (3 x3m or 3x4m are common sizes) and are the most common form of exhibition stand. They are a uniform way in which exhibition organisers put together designated spaces for exhibitors.

Insider’s guide to modular stand hire

How much does a custom exhibition stand cost?

How long is a piece of string? There are so many variables here. We design small custom stands that cost £3000 and others that are huge, require heavy equipment to be shipped into place, and cost £250,000.

The cost completely depends on the space you hire and the type of stand you want. We may be able to design one stand that can be reconfigured for every exhibition you plan to attend. This would reduce the overall annual cost of exhibition stand builds. With the savings, you may decide to include video walls, games or interactive screens to ensure visitors see you earlier and stay longer.

What’s the difference between a hybrid, custom and bespoke exhibition stand?

Nothing – just terminology. The main thing to note is they’re all designed completely with your brief in mind. Your bespoke exhibition stand will be customised to the venue, the event, the space around you, the stand size, and the desired visitor experience.

Should I just hire a stand?

This completely depends on what you are looking to achieve. Common reasons people hire their booth include:

  • They do not have anywhere to store a booth.
  • They are looking at experimenting with new ideas and concepts.
  • They have never exhibited and keen to try it out.
  • They do not exhibit regularly enough to warrant the outlay of owning their own booth.
  • Different teams within a company regularly exhibit and you need to change the graphics frequently.

If you regularly exhibit or plan to do so, and have a very clear idea of what you are looking to achieve, then owning your own trade booth is certainly worth considering.

If you are unsure whether to hire or buy, and need extra advice then please contact us and we will be happy to help you.
