Cleveland Cable Company custom exhibition stand case study at Intersolar Europe, Munich, one exhibition stand concept designed to work across five shows a year

Motive Exhibitions built a custom, reconfigurable exhibition stand for Cleveland Cable Company, one of Europe’s largest cable distributors, for Intersolar Europe at Messe München, the solar industry’s biggest event. One design, built to travel across five shows in the UK, Ireland and Germany without ever looking like a different stand, giving Cleveland Cable Company a consistent presence in front of an international audience of 100,000.

One exhibition stand concept, five shows

Cleveland Cable Company briefed us at the start of the exhibiting calendar year for an exhibition stand that could be reconfigured for five trade shows across the UK, Ireland and Germany, without losing what makes it recognisably theirs. From the start we managed all the paperwork including RAMs and health and safety sign-off for the shows the exhibition stand would be at, including the transportation and customs paperwork for the show in Germany, so they didn’t need to organise any of it themselves.

A stand built to be seen, whatever the stand dimension

Intersolar Europe’s halls are huge, and some of the neighbouring stands were massive enough to block a clear sightline across the floor. Back in the UK, their stand would be considered large. In Munich, it was one of the smaller ones on the floor, going up against double-deck stands and some genuinely vast footprints, among 2,800 companies expected to exhibit.

So we designed the exhibition stand’s illuminated signage and LED light boxes to properly glow for this show, catching people’s eyes as they looked down the gangways instead. We built the exhibition stand from timber rather than a modular aluminium system. That gave us a signature identity section at its core, illuminated signs and bright LEDs running throughout, and light boxes we replicate at every show for consistency. Most of their exhibition stands at UK shows are island configurations, but Munich was different, a space with one open side and three walls. We built new wall sections to fit, reusing the existing roof structure and light boxes from the wider system, and the panel-wrapped walling let the message stretch or shrink to match.

Built to be reused, and to travel

A lot of Cleveland Cable Company’s stand travels well. The branded fridges, the LED-illuminated counter, the structure and the bright LED lighting all make the trip between shows, whether that’s a UK show or a flight out to Germany. Building less from scratch each time keeps things more sustainable, and it means the budget stretches further too.
