Motive are finalists in the Cambridgeshire SME Awards

Not wanting to blow our own trumpet but…

We are so proud that Motive are finalists in two categories in the Cambridge Independent SME Cambridgeshire Business Awards 2022! We have been shortlisted in the Business Chameleon category and our very own Edward Marshall is a finalist in an individual award for Young Business Person of the Year.

These awards represent more than just a fancy trophy and a lovely dinner and ceremony for us although we are rather partial to an awards dinner (and drinks) and relish the chance to network with other like-minded businesses in our area whenever we get the chance. The last two years have been so hard for us all – particularly in this industry and being finalists is a testimony to how we have pulled through the hard times. To keep our head above water we expanded the graphics side of the business as we were unable to build exhibition stands as there was literally nothing doing.

We are flattered that the panel of experienced business leaders have recognised what we did to adapt to the circumstances in which we found ourselves. But more than simply keeping us going, focussing on the graphics side of the business has actually made us better at what we do in the exhibition side of things.

Recently, we were approached by LuxFilm, an independent award-winning event video specialist who needed creative exhibition designers to show off their brand in a unique way. We tied in our signage knowledge and capabilities and created a hybrid modular and custom stand complete with a custom-built wall, roof, 3D lettering, an illuminated 3D sign and a bar. It was a complicated piece of engineering but having spent the previous two years focussing on graphics, we, and Edward in particular, were able to pull off a unique custom-made stand.

The client has chosen to install the illuminated sign in their offices until they are ready to exhibit again. That’s repurposing at its finest, which, for anyone that knows me, knows how important that is.

Speaking of Edward, I have to say how proud we all are of him. It’s not like me to gush, but I really am lucky to have met and worked with such a talented person who is doing far more than I was at his age. The Young Business Person of the year is a relatively new award, and he is a deserving finalist and hopefully, winner!

All will be revealed at the gala dinner event on October 13th at the five-star Cambridge Country Club in Bourne. Please keep everything crossed for us! Now I need to find my posh suit…
