An easy-to-use pitstop for caravan owners to find the best workshop

Camping and Caravaning Show, NEC

“I don’t like going out to loads of companies for quotes, I don’t think it is fair. I want to choose from a few agencies and build a relationship with one good supplier and that’s what I have found with Motive”

overview

The Approved Workshop Scheme is a joint enterprise between the NCC (National Caravan Council), The Caravan and Motorhome Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club. AWS is the UK’s largest group of independently assessed workshops and is seen as the benchmark for motorhome and touring caravan servicing in the UK.

Services provided: Exhibition stand design, Modular stand build, Exhibition stand hire, Full project management

the brief

AWS wanted to make it easy for caravan owners to find an approved workshop to service their caravan.

It was important to them that:
– Potential customers were able to find where a local workshop might be and their details
– They were able to reuse their stand a couple of times before a complete redesign

They had already booked their stand, but then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and events were cancelled. Once up and running they reused their stand from a previous supplier for the first exhibition back and then decided to redesign their stand.

AWS gave us a budget and a brief and asked us to ‘work our magic’.

what we created

We created three different stand designs and the process of collaboration began. As experienced exhibitors, AWS knew what had worked before and on the initial visuals tweaked bits before the final sign-off. They loved that we were so accessible and available to talk to us regularly over conference calls and visits.

The purpose of the stand was to make it easier for caravan owners to find an approved workshop in their local area that could assess a caravan before purchasing or servicing an existing caravan.

designed with reuse in mind

As we knew that AWS like to reuse their stand (they are sustainably focussed and we LOVE that), we factored this into the design, to make it easy to update or resize if needed. We added extra storage and a touchscreen monitor so visitors could get instant workshop details up.

“The stand’s purpose was informational and there was no reason to complicate it with fussy graphics or design, we wanted it to be easy for visitors to understand its purpose and get the information they needed.”

Using height to our advantage

The purpose of the stand was simple – to help people find information and make their life easier and the ability to have an expert on hand to guide them through the process. The stand was clean and simple but how could we make it stand out without products or swish animations? We used the maximum height! Our stand was 50% taller than the shell schemes around it and dominated the view and customer’s eyeline

Why have an ordinary leaflet stand?

We integrated the standard leaflet stand into our design creating a zoned area to make the space feel less open on one side. A backlit graphic made an important accreditation graphic more interesting and appealing to the eye.

The purpose of the stand was to make it easier for caravan owners to find an approved workshop in their local area who could assess a caravan before purchase or service an existing caravan.

The final design was approved and was on budget.

What made this exhibition stand unique

It’s not unique for us for part of the process we know even our most seasoned exhibition clients appreciate – being able to see it fully built in our workshop before it hits the exhibition hall.

“Seeing it built was really helpful. It was really useful to see it in situ. Then Dave met us at the show and stayed with us for a while to make sure we were all happy. He texted during the week to see how we were getting on. It was such a positive experience. I really liked the personal approach, it feels like they want to do well for your business, and they make it work for you. Costs are competitive and nothing feels like too much trouble”

“A stand that’s made a real impact”

“The personal service I had with Motive, I hadn’t had before, I didn’t realise it was possible in the same way, it made the whole experience 100% better. Why would I go anywhere else?. Dave gave me advice and told us what’s possible straight away. He was honest, if it can’t be done for the budget, he will tell you. Motive were with me from the start, they were contactable if we needed them. When we reuse the stand again in February, I want to make a few tweaks, they’ve already told me its no problem”

“I know I can ask them for anything, and they will help me”
